Syracuse moves into the second spot Monday, its highest AP ranking since a six-week stretch at No. 1 in 1989-90.

Kansas, which received 55 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel, is No. 1 for the 11th time this season out of 14 polls. Syracuse moved up one place and had eight first-place votes.

Kentucky, which was No. 1 on two ballots, was third, while Villanova and West Virginia, which meet Monday night, are fourth and fifth.

UNLV moves into the poll at No. 23 giving the Mountain West Conference three teams in the Top 25, one more than the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Cornell stayed at No. 27 in the AP poll but moved up to 22 in the ESPN/USA Today rankings.

Thankyou "Cuse"....I am now wearing my Cuse Hat with more of a strut here in Philly.......where I reside ouside Philly in Bucks County, the Nova fans are abundant, but, sitting here eating my lunch at a local brew, with my hat, waving #1 in the air as they walk by....god what a great feeling from this old senior citizen....keep it up Orange...and yes JB and I are the same age, but, I have more white hair than he does, I guess being Coach of the Year keeps you young.

We are # 1 in everyones hearts... Coach JB does not look at these polls at all.. We SU fans should see them as recognition for a program which was the Rodney Dangerfield of NCAA in the preseason rankings..

GO SU beat the Huskies

YAAAAHHH! I wonder what Gottlieb is thinking now?

Did anyone else catch his sneer during the Nova-G'Town halftime show whilst talking about Syracuse's quality non-conference opponents?

And he can honestly say to Brent Axe that he likes this team?

TOOL! He's officially on ignore!

Tonight #10 Texas hosts # 1 Kansas. Texas really needs a win. If they beat the Jayhawks, look who's number 1 now! Do the Orange want or need the pressure of being on top? This season proves they can handle it and more. GO ORANGE... BEAT THE HUSKIES!

The Top Notch sports personalities on radio and TV are graduates of SU's Newhouse.. Vitale is a graduate of the OUTHOUSE... his comments about SU in early December are in the crapper. And his prediction and comments on how great North Carolina is are stinking up the place.

GO SU

The final poll comes out either after the regular season or after the conference tourneys (Can't remember which). Since in basketball champions are decided on the field so polls really have no barring on champions so no end of the year poll is released. That's why the imaginary poll you talk about in 2003 doesn't count. It never existed.

There is no after season AP Poll, but there is an after season ESPN poll. Here's the one from 2003 - http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/rankings?seasonYear=2003.

who cares about espn polls? all i know is if su keeps this up and are a 1 or 2 seed in the b.e. tourney- i wont have to take a half day to watch a noon game this year on a thurday and friday. same thing goes for the ncaa's. so the rankings do matter in some way- to my vaca time

Impossible. A 1 vs. 8 or 9 game would be in the second round. Therefore that would be a saturday or sunday affair. The 1 v. 16 games are usually later in the day, because cbs can show the good teams but then switch it off when the game becomes a blow out.
